About this deal

In Joly's case, he was uncomfortable with the way that school uniforms were used to categorize binary gender identities based on a student's sex assigned at birth; Joly had to wear a male school uniform with pants.

Had to take my time reading the early chapters as it was so hard to read about Jonathan's early years, as he was the same age as my daughter is now. My biggest issue with the book, apart from the fact it is poorly written, is that I don't know what the point of it is? Because growing up in conservative 1980s Dublin, where there was little tolerance for children who were 'different', Jonathan Joly was, indeed, a different sort of child: creative, expressive, and - on the inside - a girl. The dialogue doesn’t fit the supposed age of the narrator and all in all I just came out of this book feeling a bit strange. All My Friends Are Invisible is a 2022 nonfiction memoir by queer activist and YouTube "family vlogger" Jonathan Joly (of the channel "SACCONEJOLYs"). The structure was a bit all over the place and I would’ve liked the book to have been extended just a bit more.

He documents feeling 'other' his whole life and not wanting to be a girl, however he doesn't really explain this very well. School Uniforms are the New Black: Jonathan Joly, like other students at his school, had to wear a uniform all the time. I am aware that the author suggests that people shouldn't seek mental health help as mental health issues "do not need to be fixed, but accepted". Lastly, and the main reason for the 1 star review, is I feel this is a dangerous book from a mental health standpoint. The memoir was released commercially around the same time that the Saccone-Joly family began releasing details about one of their children, who is allegedly transgender (Jonathan Joly himself identifies as non-binary) [1] .His only chance for survival was the inner world he created for himself, rich with loving and supportive friends and playmates, that only he could see. I will not go into the specifics but encouraging his fans to accept these kind of hallucinations is truly worrying. On finishing school, he floated from one career path to the next, eventually landing at university to study multimedia.
