About this deal

If you are involved in a day-long NERF war, being able to sling your blaster during “breaks” is so much more convenient. The rear sight on the top doubles as the catch, so you flip this over and then you can remove the hopper. You will need to shake the blaster around a bit as you load so the rounds nestle down into the hopper, but it is so much less fiddly than trying to load a magazine.

Because if you have 100 rounds to play with, of course, at least one of them will hit your target, right?I always win, my husband will tell you otherwise, but he is wrong…) The pictured nerf RIVALs are not the same as the new one we got this year though, The Nerf RIVAL Nemesis MXVII-10K Blaster is quite different! Since you load the Nemesis in this way you would possibly expect the hopper to be fixed, but you can actually remove it. Essentially it is a Khaos, but rather than have the incredibly complex 40 round magazine, the engineers at NERF have turned it upside-down and left gravity to feed the ammo into the chamber rather than the springs in the Khaos magazine. I am still amazed that the best performance I have got from the Rival range is the baby Appollo’s 102 FPS! The Rival blasters target the 14+ market and since I am over 6′ tall, I find they fit me better than most N-Strike Elite blasters, but the grips also seem to be fine for kids down to about 11 years old.

There is also an ambidextrous safety catch that stops it revving, so check both of these if nothing happens. The D batteries are heavier and don’t spin the flywheels up as fast and so does not fire as hard as the rechargeable pack, which we talk about later. The Nerf Rival Nemesis MXVII-10K blaster is not only easy to load and quick to unleash a fury of blistering rounds at an astounding velocity of 100 feet per second but it is also available in either red or blue (sold separately) so you can choose your colour and battle as a team! If the Nemesis does jam (which rarely happens), the entire hopper chamber can be pulled out, which gives you almost full access to the internal mechanism. All three triggers (acceleration, primary, and lock) are located nice and close to one another, and the overall action is smooth and easy.

The Nemesis is a flywheel blaster, which means has two battery-powered wheels inside which grab the balls and fling them out of the barrel. Unlike the Hyperfire, I found it did not jam as much (neither did the Khaos) so it appears the conveyor belt system is not as fussy with the spherical high impact rounds. Overall this is pretty rare, but it must be said that it does jam slightly more than the Khaos, but nowhere near as often as the HyperFire. I did find that if you were stationary for too long, the Nemesis didn’t load up properly and you had to shake the balls down to the conveyor. As you would expect, the results were almost identical to the Khaos, which essentially shares the same flywheel mechanism.

The Nemesis has a fully automatic firing system and a firing capacity of 100 High-Impact Rounds that are loaded via a purpose-built hopper system. Fully-loaded and fully-charged, we found the Nemesis could fire for about 25 seconds non-stop, with the need for a periodic shake to get the balls flowing again. The Nerf RIVAL Nemesis MXVII-10K Blaster is going to make this Holiday Season a BLAST for anyone on your Christmas List. Alternatively, the Nemesis can also be powered with the Nerf Rival Rechargeable Battery Pack, should you already have one of those at home.

The first thing that surprised me when I picked this blaster up, was that it is noticeably lighter than the Khaos. As mentioned above, this blaster can also hold the Nerf Rival rechargeable battery pack, which is handy if you’re tired of spending your coin on batteries. My only complaint is that I wish it was in more colors, but other then that it is a very fun blaster.Yes you could set yourself up with fully loaded hoppers and load your Nemesis like this, but I don’t think this will be popular. Instead of magazines or internal ammo storage like the other blasters in the Rival line, the Nemesis has a gigantic, removable, gravity-feeding hopper that can hold up to 100 rounds. Blaster Barn is not affiliated with Hasbro®, Nerf®, Dart Zone®, BOOMCo®, Buzz Bee®, Zing®, Lanard®, Adventure Force®, Zuru®, Larami®, or Koosh® in any way. It makes for a fun in hand experience for the older set like myself but for the target demographic of real actual children, that weight could be a problem.
