Be Careful What You Wish For (The Clifton Chronicles) (The Clifton Chronicles, 4)
About this deal
A few minutes later Marsden drove through a set of wrought-iron gates that never closed, before drawing up outside the main entrance of the hospital. I have to admit some of my favorites are the evil ones, especially Lady Virginia and Major Alex Fisher, who try their best to seek revenge on the Cliftons and the Barringtons. A winding and involved story, Be Careful What You Wish For profiles a family’s effort to stick together to prevent their dynasty’s takeover by a vengeful master manipulator. Hardcastle's first decision is who to support to become the next chairman of the board: Emma Clifton or Major Alex Fisher? He has been married to Dame Mary Archer, Chair of the Science Museum Group, for 55 year, and they have two sons, two granddaughters and three grandsons.
However, as readers of the previous novels in the series will now expect, the story ends on a cliff-hanger that will probably have you reaching immediately for the next book in the saga! In the present instance BEST KEPT SECRET ended with an automobile accident that resulted in the death of one of the passengers, but we are left wondering if Harry and Emma’s son, Sebastian has survived. The series is supposed to be about the life of one man, Harry Clifton, but Harry takes a backseat in this story. In the least, the author has a lot to do in the last installation of the Chronicles to infuse some sort of relevancy in the series. Many characters touched my heart and their lives took so many unexpected twists, which has surely blown my mind. Jeffrey Archer forces me, and other readers alike, to wait a whole year before we can get the book 5 in the Clifton Chronicles?
There will be seven books in the Clifton Chronicles instead of the initial five as was earlier intended. She might not have agreed to take his place if she’d realized that he would be back in England the following day. My review in a nutshell is that Be Careful What You Wish For is an awesome follow up to Best Kept Secret and should not be read without starting the first in the series.
Neste volume, Jeffrey Archer dá continuidade à saga das famílias Clifton e Barrington, mas, na minha opinião este livro prendeu-se mais com os meandros dos negócios e da política e menos com as suas personagens. Marsden took her arm as they made their way down the steps toward the car; the first time he’d ever touched the mistress. Back in London, Harry and Emma’s adopted daughter wins a scholarship to the Slade Academy of Art where she falls in love with a fellow student, Clive Bingham, who asks her to marry him. Allegedly civilised people are described as drinking Bristol Cream sherry before lunch (what a horrific idea). You really do have to start with the first in the series, it's no good trying to read them out of sequence, but it's so easy to become immersed in the plot that you don't want to put it down.
